Incoming Freshman Scholarships
The application for incoming freshmen scholarships during the 2023-2024 academic year will be available online November 1, 2022.
Students applying for financial need scholarships must complete their 2023-2024 FAFSA by the priority deadline February 1, 2023.
Charleston Wine + Food Festival Excellence Scholarship
The purpose for the Charleston Wine+Food Festival is to highlight and celebrate Charleston’s extraordinary culinary history and culture. The Festival also recognizes and supports culinary establishments that sustain local industry. The Festival is a world-class, four-day event which promotes and supports a variety of culinary interests and charities. This scholarship was created by the Charleston Wine + Food Festival, which has been a longstanding partner with the College's Hospitality and Tourism Management program.
Since 2008, the Charleston Wine + Food Festival has annually funded upperclassmen and incoming freshman scholarships; and provided students with countless experiential learning opportunities and internships. The Charleston Wine + Food Festival makes this commitment to assist the School of Business and HTM program in recruiting best in class students to the College and to Charleston in pursuit of hospitality, tourism and event management careers. The scholarship is awarded based upon event management career interests, financial need, and other criteria.
ELIGIBILITY
Incoming Freshman. Intended Hospitality and Tourism major, minor or concentration (must declare by end of the first semester enrolled at CofC). Student must demonstrate hospitality experience through career statement and resume. Minimum SAT score of 1100 (combined highest math and verbal scores) or minimum ACT score of 24. Renewable up to three years, if terms are met. Recipients are encouraged to pursue internships with the festival for at least one semester.
Guy E. Beatty Scholarship
Guy and Betty Beatty have been longstanding contributors and friends to the College of Charleston. Under the Beattys leadership, the family has awarded 100 Beatty Scholarships since 1997 at the School of Business. In 1998, Guy Beatty became a member of the Board of Governors. Thanks to their continued commitment, the School of Business Beatty Center open its doors in 2003 and has become an innovative destination for hardworking students, faculty and community partners.
ELIGIBILITY
Incoming freshman. Intended School of Business major (must declare by end of the first semester enrolled at CofC). Student must demonstrate academic distinction and complete their FAFSA for the award year. Minimum SAT score of 1100 (combined highest math and verbal scores) or minimum ACT score of 24. Renewable up to three years, if terms are met.
Marion and Wayland H. Cato Jr. Scholarship
The Cato Corporation is a growing company with a high market presence nation-wide. The Company, founded in 1946, operates approximately 1,300 apparel and accessories specialty stores in 32 states under the names "Cato", “Versona”, “it’s Fashion” and "It's Fashion Metro.” The Cato Family have been integral supporters of the College of Charleston Arts and Business programs. With the Cato Scholarship, students that demonstrate an interest in careers in business are provided tuition assistance.
ELIGIBILITY
Incoming Freshman. Intended School of Business major (must declare by end of the first semester enrolled at CofC). Applicant must be from a community where the Cato Corporation has a market presence (home address within 30 miles of a Cato store). Preference given to employees of the Cato Corporation and members of their immediate families. Student must complete their FAFSA for the award year. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Renewable up to three years, if terms are met.
Mattox Family Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Chris and Michele Mattox. Chris graduated from the College of Charleston in 2002 with a degree in International Business. In 2011, the Mattox family first created an annual scholarship to support a student intending to incorporate global study into their curriculum. Their commitment has evolved and now the scholarship serves to attract top freshman talent to study business at the College of Charleston.
ELIGIBILITY
Incoming Freshman. Intended School of Business major (must declare by the end of first semester). Student must complete their FAFSA for the award year. Minimum SAT score of 1100 or minimum ACT score of 24. Must demonstrate academic and leadership distinction. Renewable up to three years, if terms are met.
R. Keith & Melissa G. Sauls Scholarship
This scholarship has been endowed by R. Keith and Melissa Garrison Sauls for the purpose of helping financially needy students who have a strong desire to attend the College of Charleston.
ELIGIBILITY
Incoming Freshman. Intended School of Business major (must declare by end of the first semester enrolled at CofC). Student must complete their FAFSA for the award year. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Renewable up to three years, if terms are met.
Sharon & Rus Kingman Scholarship
Sharon Kingman is an alumna of the College of Charleston, and a graduate of the School of Business. While attending the College, she became a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and is still an active member and fundraiser for the organization. Today, Mrs. Kingman serves on the College of Charleston Foundation Board acting as an ambassador to promote educational, research, and other programs at the College of Charleston.
ELIGIBILITY
Incoming freshman. Intended International Business major (must declare by the end of their first semester at CofC). Demonstration of leadership and student must complete their FAFSA for the award year. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Renewable up to three years, if terms are met.
William Nelson Grooms Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship has been endowed for the purpose of helping to assist a School of Business student with tuition support to attend the College of Charleston. The Grooms family has a long lineage of alumnus to the College and have a strong desire to positively impact the School of Business and the rest of our campus.
