Travel Awards & Scholarships

Whether you are studying abroad in Florence or interning in Hong Kong, international experiences ensure that you will be well-equipped to work in a global marketplace! In addition to program fees and tuition, international travel has its own financial demands. To make these invaluable experiences more accessible to students, School of Business donors are helping to fund global opportunities.

Conditions:

Eligible students may receive up to the maximum amount of $2,000 only once during their academic career. In some cases, students may be eligible to receive a second scholarship if they qualify for more the second time. 

Example: Suzie receives $500 for a short summer program her sophomore year and then declares a major and plans to go on a semester-long exchange her junior year. She would then receive an additional $1,500, allowing her to receive the maximum amount of $2,000.

If a student is awarded any given amount but fails to participate in their applied to program or fails to receive a passing grade as a result of their participation, then the awarded amount (in total) will be rescinded and the student will be financially liable for the difference in cost.

Awards may be used on expenses incurred because of participation in the program, such as: airfare, room and board, food, insurance/fees, books, travel and transportation while in Egypt. And are contingent upon acceptance to study at AUC.

Anna B. Cox Study Abroad in France Scholarship

  • Must be planning to travel to France as part of an approved study abroad program through the College.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
  • Must submit a 500 word personal statement. The personal statement must address the following:
    • Why have selected your study abroad program; and
    • How does it complement your academic interests and personal goals?
  • Two references.

Cahill International Travel Award (HTMT interns)

The Cahill HTMT International Internship Award was created by Michael and Tania Cahill of La Canada-Flintridge, CA.  Their daughter, Isabel, graduated from the College of Charleston in 2014 with Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTMT). The Cahill Award annually funds international internships to declared HTMT majors who proposes use of the funding to support participation in an international internship.

  • Demonstrated maturity of travel plans and commitment to complete an international internship during the specified award year.

Cain Family International Scholarship

The Cain Family International Scholarship is intended to assist in the learning of languages through total immersion and cross-cultural experience.

  • Successful completion of at least 12 undergraduate or 6 graduate credit hours at the College of Charleston at the time of application (with the exception of first-year Spring Break FYE program participants).

Charleston Women in International Trade Scholarship

Charleston Women in International Trade (CWIT) champions the role of international trade professionals, particularly women in Charleston and throughout South Carolina.

  • Must be a legal resident of SC and enrolled in an accredited school, institution, college, or university and must provide proof of acceptance or current enrollment.
  • People of any gender are encouraged to apply.
  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Must be well qualified, with a serious interest in pursuing a degree specific to International Trade or related course of study.
* Applicants do not need to be full-time students.

CIEE Trailblazer Award

Beginning in Spring 2024, any students that study in the inaugural semester of a new CIEE program will receive a guaranteed flight voucher up to $1,000.

Deutscher Bruderliche Bund Scholarship

The Deutscher Bruderliche Bund Scholarship was created to encourage undergraduate students to study the German language, culture and history.

Henry Miller French Travel Fund Endowment

This scholarship fund was established in honor of Henry Miller and his devoted service. Miller, whose distinguished career at the College extended over thirty-six years, was a French professor who set high standards for his students. He had a love for French culture and wanted others to appreciate it and share in it with him. Miller enjoyed discussions on literary or philosophical topics with both students and colleagues.

Joe Milligan Australian Scholarship Endowed Fund

The Joe Milligan Australian Scholarship Fund was created in memory of Joe by his close friends, Ms. Catherine O’Connor and Ms. Katie Clark, and by his parents and sister, George and Juliet Sears Milligan and Juliet Katherine Milligan. Joe was an active, avid surfer who enjoyed the sport while studying abroad.

John L. Covington, Jr. & Robert J. Lukey Endowed/Annual Scholarship for Study Abroad

Dr. John L. Covington and Professor Robert J. Lukey were a married couple. They had a passion for travel, the arts, healthcare and education. Both John and Robert were deeply committed to helping others regardless of age, race, religion, origin and, most importantly, of sexual orientation/identification. It is their fervent wish that the student who receives this scholarship shall have similar values and shall have expressed those prior to recieving the scholarship.

    • A S.C. resident attending any college or university, or
    • Attending any South Carolina college or university regardless of residency. 
  • Majoring in any of the following:

    • Any business degree.

Richard Anthony Kalata Memorial Travel Award

The Richard Anthony Kalata Memorial Travel Scholarship provides scholarships that will support selected students who participate in for-credit study abroad programs and experiences.

Wells Fargo Excellence Scholarship for Study Abroad
