Prospective Students

Admissions

The Bachelor of Professional Studies program primarily serves non-traditional (adult, 21+) students. Admission requirements will vary by degree program. Interested in learning more? Attend one of our information sessions.

DID YOU KNOW students can streamline their path to degree completion by completing an AA/AS from a South Carolina technical college?

Effective June 1, 2022, students who graduated with an Associate of Arts (A.A.) or Associate of Science (A.S.) degree from a public, two-year South Carolina technical college are guaranteed to receive a minimum of 60 transfer credit hours and junior class status. Students may also waive all pre-requisite requirements for declaration of the Bachelor of Professional Studies (B.P.S.) degree at the College of Charleston.

Program Prerequisites

Bachelor of Professional Studies (BPS) applicants must:

  • be at least 21 years old
  • have earned a high school diploma (or its equivalent)

Course Prerequisites

Our most successful students complete program prerequisites prior to admission. However, opportunities are available for students to complete program prerequisites after admission.

We recommend that prospective students have completed at least 30 credit hours of coursework in the following:

Oral and Written Communication (6-7 credit hours)

  • English 101, 102 or English 110
  • Public Speaking COMM 104 or equivalent

Humanities and Fine Arts (6 credit hours)

History (3 credit hours)

  • History-U.S./European/World (choose one)

Social and Behavioral Sciences (6 credit hours)

  • Psychology/Sociology/Anthropology/Political Science/Economics or Geography (Choose two courses from two different disciplines within the approved general education social science subject at any level.)

Natural Science/Mathematics (12 credit hours)

  • Chemistry/Physics/Biology/Astronomy or Geology (choose one subject - lab not required)
  • Statistics (MATH 104 or MATH 250)
  • One additional MATH course beyond College Algebra.
  • An additional 3 credit hours to be fulfilled by an additional math (MATH 101 or higher), natural science or logic course (PHIL120).

NOTE: An AA/AS from a South Carolina technical college meets all of the above program prerequisites.

Speak with a program advisor.

Schedule a one on one meeting

Schedule a time to speak to a Pre-Transfer Advisor about your options for degree completion. If you are interested in the BPS program and have not completed atleast 30 hours of the above coursework, we still encourage you to contact the admissions team.

If you already have an undergraduate degree, you are not eligible for the BPS program. You are eligible for undergraduate certificates

Note: Additional admission requirements will vary by concentration.
