Robert Pitts is a Professor of Marketing at the College of Charleston's School of Business. He served as Dean of the School of Business July 2004 to June 2008. Prior to joining the College of Charleston, he served as Dean of the College of Business Administration at Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska for seven years. From 1985 until 1997 Dr. Pitts served at DePaul University as Professor and Chair in the Department of Marketing and as Director of the Kellstadt Center for Marketing Analysis and Planning. His university experience includes serving as an Associate Professor and Director of the Bureau of Business Research at the University of Mississippi and Assistant Professor of Marketing at the University of Notre Dame. He began his academic career at Jacksonville State University.  Professor Pitts holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration with dual concentrations in Marketing and Behavioral Management from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Business Information Systems from Georgia State University.

Dr. Pitts' research has been referenced almost 1600 times; appearing in top journals in marketing and travel. He served as President of the Academic Council and Vice President of the Education Division of the American Marketing Association for 1999-2000.  Prior to serving as its President, he served as Vice President for Education and Information Dissemination for two terms and is a past Chair of the Council’s Teaching Special Interest Group.

Married to Cheryl Belew Pitts, Bob is a third degree black belt in the Japanese martial art of Aikido.
