Dr. John McGrath is an Instructor of Marketing and Management at the School of Business. He joined the College of Charleston in 2021, bringing a mix of real world industry experience combined with a rich academic teaching background.
John’s corporate experience includes professional positions with global marketing firms Leo Burnett and J. Walter Thompson, where he served as a VP and worked on major campaigns for clients including Miller Brewing, Oscar Mayer Foods, McDonnell Douglas Aerospace, and Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance.
His academic experience includes teaching positions at DePaul University and the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, where he served as a Professor of Marketing, earned the Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award and Community Service Award, and founded the University’s Marketing program.
His research interests include Integrated Marketing Communications, Community Quality of Life and Economic Development, and Tourism Marketing. His research has been published in a diverse set of peer-reviewed academic journals including the Journal of Marketing Communications, Journal of Promotion Management, Marketing Management Journal, Journal of Marketing for Higher Education, Economic Development Quarterly, Tourism Economics, Local Economy, International Journal of Leisure and Tourism, and the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Insights.
