Keith Sauls, CFA

Keith Sauls, CFA is a recognized expert in Alternative Investments and a leader in growing firms focused on entrepreneurs, foundations, and family offices.  Sauls began his 15+ year career as an Associate Vice President of SunTrust Bank.  He advanced to Equity Portfolio Manager for City Capital Counseling, an Atlanta boutique money management firm with $950 million assets under management (AUM).  While in pursuit of his MBA at Emory’s Goizueta Business School, Sauls worked with Liveoak Equity Partners, a $100 million Healthcare Technology Venture Fund.  Following completion of his MBA, Sauls progressed to Senior Vice President in Client Account Management at Bessemer Trust Company, then Senior Vice President and Wealth Strategist at GenSpring Family Offices, a SunTrust affiliate.  Sauls was most recently Managing Director of Crawford Investment Counsel heading up the firm’s Diversified Portfolio Group prior to moving his full time residence to Charleston, SC.  Currently, Sauls is working closely with three emerging payment processing technology companies in which he has equity investments.

As Managing Director of the Crawford Investment Counsel Diversified Portfolio Group, Sauls served as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and was responsible for identifying and combining outside managers and strategies that compliment the firm’s $2.5 billion in proprietary AUM as well as aids clients in hedging risks that are unique to their family or portfolio.  As Senior Vice President for GenSpring Family Offices (formerly AMA Global), Sauls was part of the Senior Leadership Team, which helped build firm strategy and attract clients from entrepreneurs to family offices with $25 million in liquid investment assets.  He also assisted in expanding the firm’s Atlanta office from $1 billion to $3.5 billion organically in 4 years while the firm as a whole grew from $3 billion to over $12 billion.

Sauls commenced his formal education at the College of Charleston with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and a concentration in Capital Markets.  He currently sits on the College’s Foundation Board and the Board of Governors of the College of Charleston Business School. In 2005, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the College of Charleston Alumni Association.  Mr. Sauls and his wife Missy are the sponsors of the R. Keith and Melissa G. Sauls endowed undergraduate scholarship at the College of Charleston School of Business and Economics.

Sauls continued his education at Emory University’s Goizueta Business School with a Masters of Business Administration degree and a concentration in Finance and E-Commerce.  Moreover, he was the only first-year member of the 5-member Team that placed 3rd in the United States among the top 32 MBA programs in the Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC) in 2000 while an MBA candidate.

Sauls subsequently holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, and is highly active in the Atlanta/Southeastern Private Equity community as Managing Partner of Exeter, LLC and AppleGold Investment Company, family owned investment companies focused on southeastern-based Private Equity Investments with an emphasis on emerging payment processing technologies.

Sauls is an active member of the Atlanta and Charleston communities where he serves an Elder and a Member of the Finance Committee at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, while also acting as a Board Member of the Bill Maness Outreach Center (BMOC).  Sauls is also a member of the Goizueta Partners Society, Institute for Private Investors (IPI), and Young Life African Expeditions Advisory Committee.
