Centers of Excellence

Improving our community through service, innovation and social responsibility.

The School of Business leads the region in business community outreach in six key areas of interdisciplinary research, economic development and business support. Our Centers of Excellence advance our mission to satisfy the business challenges of the state, the nation and abroad.

The centers' program directors and the work they produce is often cited in the media and research publications, particularly the trend data and reports developed by the Carter Center for Real Estate, the Office of Economic Analysis and the Office of Tourism Analysis

The Tate Center for Entrepreneurship serves as a collaborative bridge between the School of Business and the local and regional business community. The Center is named after Mr. Jack Tate, a South Carolina entrepreneur who founded Carolina Baby Superstores.

In Fall 2008, a generous gift from the BB&T Charitable Foundation created our Initiative for Public Choice and Market Process.  In collaborative forums, we examine  the role of government institutions in a capitalistic society, the relationship between government and the individual and between political and economic freedom, and the moral structure of a free market economy. We are committed to advancing the understanding and appreciation of the system of free minds and free markets.

The Global Business Resource Center benefits students and its members because of its ideal location in the heart of an international trade community. The center builds on our longstanding relationships with the S.C. World Trade Center, the S.C. State Ports Authority and other international trade organizations to expand international trade education.

The Beatty Center, home of the School of Business, provides an ideal venue for international trade seminars, workshops and lectures.
