Professors and Staff

Dr. David M. Wyman is the Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at the College of Charleston School of Business and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Management and Marketing. As it relates to the Center, Dr. Wyman will assume the role of faculty advisor to the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team.  Last year he introduced a new award competition, titled "Wild Pitch" for the students in Entrepreneurship which has proven to be extremely successful.
Prior to joining academia, Dave was an entrepreneur and invented over 50 toys and games.  His most successful product sold over 3 million copies.  He has also taught at Colorado State, University of San Diego and was the Associate Director of the Spiro Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership at Clemson University.  His research interests center on entrepreneurship and real estate.  Dr. Wyman earned his Ph.D. from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland.
 


Kelly G. Shaver is a Professor of Entrepreneurial Studies at the College of Charleston. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Society, past Chair of the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management, and a Justin Longenecker Fellow of the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
Kelly’s previous appointments include the College of William & Mary, the Entrepreneurship and Small Business Research Institute in Stockholm, and the National Science Foundation. He has won a teaching award from the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management, a Best Paper Award from the National Federation of Independent Businesses, and the Distinguished Research Award from College of Charleston in 2014 and 2016. His internationally recognized entrepreneurship research has been supported by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and the National Science Foundation. He has served as Editor of Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and is currently an Associate Editor of the Journal of Small Business Management. He is the founder of MindCette, LLC, an entrepreneurship testing and consulting company.



Lancie Affonso is the Director of the Entrepreneurship Living-Learning Community through the Honors College and is a Certified Entrepreneurship Teacher (CET). Lancie completed his M.I.B.S. at the University of South Carolina and graduated from the College of Charleston with an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and a Masters degree in Computer Science.
Professor Affonso has served as the Director of Information Technology Fluency at the College and currently teaches courses in Management, Entrepreneurship, Decision Sciences, and Computer Science. Lancie is an enterprise technology consultant, and his current research interests include Marketing and Predictive Analytics, emerging Software as a Service 

(SaaS), and Customer Relationship Management (CRM).  He is also interested in student engagement factors in online learning and online business simulations.



Dr. David J. Hansen is an Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship. His primary research focus is aimed at better understanding the process of how ideas are conceived and developed into new products and new businesses. The majority of his research examines opportunity through a theoretical lens of creativity. Additionally, he has a growing interest in environmental sustainability as a research context. His secondary research focuses on the interface between marketing and entrepreneurship.

He is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Research in Marketing and Entrepreneurship and a board member for the Global Research Symposium on Marketing and Entrepreneurship. He primarily teaches Entrepreneurship courses including New Venture Modeling, Ecopreneurship (a course he created) and Social Entrepreneurship. In addition, he regularly works with undergrad and graduate students on thesis projects related to sustainable business and/or entrepreneurship.


Dr. David Desplaces is passionate about helping students reach their fullest potential and prepares them for the "borderless business world" that we work in today. An associate professor of global commerce and entrepreneurship, Dr. Desplaces believes that applied learning opportunities are the pathway for every student's future success. He works tirelessly to create valuable experiences for his students, including leading students in study-abroad courses to places such as Dubai, Cameron, and France. Dr. Desplaces serves as a role model to students who want to "give back" in meaningful ways.


Maggie Howe is the Social Media and Marketing Director for the Center for Entrepreneurship. Currently a freshman at the College, she plans to double major in both Accounting and Dance Performance and Choreography. In addition, Maggie is a member of the Honors College, Entrepreneurship Living-Learning Community, and Kappa Alpha Theta.
