The Carter Real Estate Center (CREC) provides support for the commercial real estate program in the School of Business at the College of Charleston. The Center works closely with the commercial real estate industry to provide out-of-classroom learning opportunities for real estate students. These opportunities include internships, an industry speaker series, local and out-of-state property tours, and support for student participation in commercial real estate professional organizations.
The CREC is supported by financial contributions from Ben Carter of Ben Carter Properties, Inc. (Atlanta, GA), the Carter family and other donors.
Friends of the Carter Real Estate Center: Bridging the classroom to the industry.
With the help of numerous alumni and other real estate professionals, the CREC established the Friends of the Carter Center. Today, the Friends of the Carter Center represent supportive professionals and alumni who promote CREC events, foster networking relationships with students, and sponsor our events.
Establishing fruitful relationships with the local and regional commercial real estate industry is the central focus of the Friends of the Carter Real Estate Center. These relationships provide long-term benefits by giving students first-hand insight into the industry. Our Friends sponsor our events and participate as guest lecturers in the classroom. Others volunteer their time to participate in the Center's activities such as property tours, internships and career positions following graduation.
Special Events
A key strategy in building our academic and outreach program focuses on bringing real estate industry professionals to campus to network with students and each other. Our commercial networking events typically include a half-hour reception followed by a speaker or panel discussion on topics relevant to industry, students, and faculty. The event is followed by a question and answer session with the attendees. Each event is typically sponsored by one of our financial partners who pays for food, beverage, travel and accommodation expenses, depending on the guest speakers. Our generous partners also help fund additional Center activities.
