Carter Real Estate Center
Preparing Responsible Real Estate Professionals
The Carter Real Estate Center (CREC) brings together students, faculty, and industry leaders (including an extensive alumni network) — through the synergy of teaching, research and service — to better understand the complexities of the real estate asset and help find practical solutions for the issues facing the industry today. The CREC fulfills this mission in the following ways:
- Working to promote the undergraduate academic real estate program, currently a concentration and minor. Long-range plans are to introduce a real estate major.
- Assisting faculty and club leadership in developing experiential opportunities that will enhance and reinforce our students' academic experience. Students are linked with the professional real estate community through clubs (the real estate club and the USGBC student chapter), field trips, conferences and other networking opportunities as well as internships and permanent career opportunities.
- Supporting our faculty in their real estate research, which is presented at academic conferences and published in peer-reviewed academic journals.
- Building relationships with the business community to support our students' professional development while providing brokers, developers, investors, property owners, and other employers with talented, ready-to-work graduates. These opportunities also help enhance the reputation of the CREC locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
Charleston's real estate market is steadily on the rise, so the timing is perfect to explore a minor or concentration in real estate. From manufacturing and warehouse expansion, corporate real estate and Class A office, retail renovation and development and condominium construction, the real estate industry has so much to offer.
