Before you can officially declare your major in the School of Business, you must read and understand the School of Business Admission Policy.
A mandatory advising hold will be placed on your account the same semester that you first declare your major. The hold will be removed after you have been advised by a School of Business advisor AND attended a School of Business Orientation Session.
You MUST COMPLETE following courses with a grade no less than a "C-":
- MATH 104 or MATH 250** (Statistics)
- MATH 105, MATH 120 or HONS 115** (Calculus)
- DSCI 232 (Business Statistics)
- ECON 200 or HONS 212 (Microeconomics)
- ECON 201 or HONS 211 (Macroeconomics)
- ACCT 203* (Financial Accounting)
- ACCT 204* (Managerial Accounting)
*Economics majors are not required to take ACCT 203 or ACCT 204.
**Students considering majoring in Economics or attending graduate school are strongly encouraged to take MATH 250 and MATH 120.
You will be considered a pre-declared student in the School of Business until you have successfully completed the above courses with a C- or better average.
If you receives a grade lower than a C- in an admission course, you may only repeat the course one time in an attempt to earn the required miniumun grade of C-.
Until you have successfully completed the above admissions, you will be restricted to a maximum of 9 hours of 300 level or higher School of Business courses.
Declaring a Major
Declarations of major for the School of Business are now processed online. Login to your MyCharleston account, click on the Academic Services tab, and select Program of Study Management (POSM) channel.
If you have not completed the above SB admissions courses, please select pre-declared status. For example, choose one of the following:
Pre-Accounting, Pre-Business Administration, Pre-Economics, Pre-Hospitality and Tourism Management, or Pre-International Business.
