Michael Cahill is a private investor, attorney and business consultant who has worked in the investment management business for 23 years. Throughout much of his career, Mr. Cahill served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Trust Company of the West. TCW is the parent of a group of investment management companies involved in traditional and alternative fixed income and equity investments, both in the U.S. and internationally. Mr. Cahill served in a dual role, participating in the executive management of TCW and overseeing the Legal Department. TCW managed about $135 billion of client assets.

Mr. Cahill sits on the board of the KKR Income Opportunities Fund (KIO), a closed-end investment fund. He also sits on the Boards of various non-profit organizations, including Southwestern Law School. He is an active Angel investor and a Board memeber of the Pasadena Angels. Mr. Cahill holds and has held Board positions on various civic, community and professional organizations and has been a speaker at several conferences on topics including venture capital, international joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and investment management. 

Prior to joining TCW, Mr. Cahill was Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Act III Communications, a media and entertainment company involved in television broadcasting, movie theaters, trade publishing and film and television production. It was a start-up financed by its principal owner, Norman Lear, and third party venture, private equity, mezzanine and senior investors.

Mr. Cahill joined Act III after practicing private corporate, securities and M&A law with O'Melveny & Myers in Los Angeles. He represented large public companies in insurance, aerospace, consumer products, entertainment, banking and finance, as well as private and start-up companies. He started his career in law in San Diego with Shenas, Robbins, Shenas & Shaw, where he did both transactional work and litigation in California and Federal courts, including the US Supreme Court.

Mr. Cahill holds an LL.M. from Harvard University, a J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Toronto and a BA from Bishops University, Quebec.
