Tom Noland joined the College of Charleston faculty in 2017.  Dr. Noland previously served on the faculty at the University of South Alabama where he was professor of accounting and Department Chair.  Prior to teaching at South Alabama, Tom taught at Georgia Southern University where he was awarded the School of Accountancy's Research and Service Awards and the College of Business Administratiion's Brown & Williamson Award.  He holds professional certifications as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and Certified Defense Financial Manager (CDFM).  Dr. Noland has been awarded both the Lybrand Bronze Medal and multiple Certificates of Merit by the Institute of Management Accountants for his contributions to accounting research.

Dr. Noland has served as an Academic Fellow in the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) Office of Chief Accountant and has also worked for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).  Dr. Noland is a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the Army Reserve.  LTC Noland is a distinguished military graduate of the University of Kentucky ROTC program where he was the recipient of the George C. Marshall Award.  Dr. Noland's Ph.D. is from the Patterson School of Accountancy at the University of Mississippi where he was awarded both university and dissertation fellowships.  Dr. Noland earned his MSM (MBA) at the Georgia Institute of Technology where he was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma.
